＝ ＝ ＝ ＝ What is Asakusa Shrine ＝ ＝ ＝ ＝
The Ujigami (guardian deity) of the 44 towns of Asakusa, standing right beside the main hall of Sensoji Temple.
Sho Kanzeon Bosatsu Goshojin ・ The shrine enshrines three local people who contributed to the construction of Sensoji Temple: Doji Machinomikoto ・ Hinomaehama Narimikoto ・ Hinomae Takenomikoto, and is affectionately known as "Sanja-sama" by the shrine parishioners.
In May, three mikoshi (portable shrines) and more than 100 portable shrines parade through the streets of Asakusa for the Sanja Festival, which attracts a total of 1.8 million people over the three days.
The shrine building, a wooden gongen-zukuri structure donated by the third Tokugawa Shogun, Iemitsu, survived the Great Kanto Earthquake ・ and is now designated as a National Important Cultural Property.
The shrine offers various prayers and Shinto wedding ceremonies throughout the year, and is also involved in various projects for the education of young people ・ and the inheritance of traditional Japanese culture.
